An overnight weekend of connection, exploration, and empowerment, featuring workshops and activities for and by Trans and Gender non-conforming individuals. Learn, heal, and connect with fellow trans individuals in a supportive and nurturing environment.
August 6th - 9th
Durham, NC
The Transgender Faith and Action Network (TFAAN) is a collective of trans people of faith who recognize the value of being connected to one another and providing mutual support. The TFAAN Retreat features workshops by and for transgender, non-binary, genderqueer/gender non-conforming people on topics that feel urgent and necessary to explore within community. The TFAAN Retreat is a non-denominational space and is open to trans* people of all (and no) religious identities. As with all of our work at The Freedom Center for Social Justice, the TFAAN Retreat is intentionally intersectional and inter-generational. TFAAN began as “TransFaith in Color,” a collaborative effort among trans people of various faith traditions to create more welcoming and affirming houses of worship. TransFaith in Color hosted convenings in North Carolina to promote learning, networking, healing, and empowerment. TFAAN proudly builds upon the work done by the trans people of color and faith who founded these efforts.

ALTAR OF MEANING
Throughout the retreat, participants are invited to contribute to a collective altar dedicated to memory, intention, healing, and hope. Bring an object, a written reflection, a prayer, a photograph, or simply your presence.
This evolving sacred space will serve as a visual reminder of the wisdom, grief, joy, resilience, and possibility that we carry together.

STORY SLAM & FIREPIT
Stories have always been how communities pass down wisdom, preserve memory, and make meaning of the world around them. As the day winds down, gather around the fire for an evening of storytelling, reflection, laughter, and connection.
Participants are invited to share personal stories, moments of transformation, lessons learned, spiritual insights, or simply listen as others offer pieces of their journeys. Whether profound, funny, healing, or unexpected, every story contributes to the collective tapestry of the retreat experience.
There is no pressure to speak. Your presence is enough. Come ready to share, listen, and be reminded that our stories have the power to connect us.
